Skills for Industry is a short-course designed to provide you with the support and confidence needed to take the first steps in building a rewarding and sustainable career in the construction or infrastructure industry.

If you want a hand to prepare you for the next steps, then this is the programme for you!

What we need from you

As part of the programme, we need the following from you:

  • a commitment to attending the programme,

  • participation in all programme activities and requirements,

  • engagement and communication with your assigned Kaiako (tutor) and support staff.

How the programme works

As a participant of Skills for Industry, you will commit to:

  • 4 days per week for 4 weeks,

  • 8 weeks employment support.

What you will get from us

  • CV development / update

  • Job Search Skills

  • Communication in the Workplace

  • The Importance of Health and Safety

  • Interview techniques and confidence

  • Construct Safe Assessment

  • Temporary Traffic Management (TTM)

  • Additional training available (pathway dependent)

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, you must be:

  •  a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident,

  • In receipt of a Ministry of Social Development main benefit, i.e. Job Seekers, Sole Parent Support, or Supported Living Payment,

  • Those who are not in receipt of a main benefit, but are registered with Job Seekers (and hold an SWN number)

  • Non-MSD Clients who are between 16 and 18 years of age and are not in education, employment, or training.
